Visit Amarillo Like A Local: Finds From The Texas Panhandle

There are a lot of gems in the Texas Panhandle: from the world famous Big Texan, to Cadillacs embedded in the ground at the Cadillac Ranch. If you are a visitor, you may gravitate towards those sights, but I have prepared a more exclusive list of things to do based on my personal exploration of Amarillo Texas. These places are little known to tourists, but are raved about by locals.

Outdoor Activities
Visit the Wonderland Amusement Park to pump some adrenaline into your blood, or enjoy a giant wave pool at the Splash Water Park. Also if you are looking to experience one of the best experiences in your life, visit the Breakout Calgary – Live Action Escape Room and have a lot of fun! Medi Park (Medical Center Park) is a good place to spend a relaxing day feeding the ducks and geese.

Tex-Mex Food and Steakhouses
What better place to eat Tex-Mex food than in Texas? Amarillo hosts more than enough Tex-Mex restaurants to prevent you from eating at the same place for a month! Try Ruby Tequila’s for awesome margaritas and good Tex-Mex food. Ruby Tequila also provides live music on their patio during the summer months. Being so close to the “Beef capital of the world”- Hereford, TX– Amarillo houses one of the best steakhouses I’ve ever eaten at. I highly suggest Hoffbrau Steakhouse.
Performing Arts
If you are into performance arts, make sure to check out Amarillo Civic Center’s calendar. There are operas, ballets, musicals and visiting Broadway productions frequently. West Texas A&M University in Canyon, TX puts on great plays and dance shows as well, and is only about 15 miles away from downtown Amarillo.

Polk Street
Polk Street is where you can find nightlife in Amarillo. Whether you are into pop music, or Latin music, you will find something that suits your entertainment preferences. My personal favorite is Bodega’s Dance Club.

6th Street
On the historic Route 66, 6th Street houses the indie side of Amarillo. There you can find antique shops, galleries and local coffee shops. With its arts for sale on the walls, and frequent live music performances of local artists, the 806 coffee shop is a good place to hang out.
